Wilsonville golf taking big swings

The Wilsonville golf team, both boys and girls, has been making their mark in recent years, with the girls’ golf team securing back-to-back state championships in 2024 and 2025 and looking for another one in 2026. Chris Bensel coaches the girls’ golf team. In 2025, the golf team went undefeated.

The boys’ golf team competed in the 5A Northwest Oregon Conference, where they finished 5th in the 2025 OSAA state tournament with Ryan Day as head coach. The golf team has a tournament hosted by Wilsonville on April 20th at Langdon Farms Golf Course.

Both the boys’ and girls’ golf teams have a long road ahead with lots of tournaments down the road.

When you are playing golf, there is a set of rules that you have to follow, such as dress codes. Players must wear uniforms with collared shirts, appropriate-length shorts, or pants. Players must verify their score with their marker after the round and ensure it is signed, because if the scorecard is incorrect, it can lead to disqualification.

There are misconceptions about golf that if you strike the wrong ball results in a two-stroke penalty in stroke play. Most high schools implement a maximum score per hole, so the speed of play is not super slow. For the varsity golf roster, there can be a maximum of 5 players, but the top 4 scores count for the team total.

The golf team is a great team with lots of great players and coaches. One of the golf players is Simon Bonfigilo, who is a senior and one of the captains, says,
