The Pre-season is over, and now the real deal starts. Girls’ softball is currently 5-5, with wins over Corvallis, Sunset, Sherwood, Sprague and Redmond, with their first league game coming up at Milwaukee on April 15.
Senior Sophia Vega describes how the season is going so far: “We’re figuring things out, it’s early.” They have already played a total of five Class 6a teams: Tualatin, Sunset, Oregon City, Sherwood and Sprague, which actually helps their ranking a little bit in the overall OSAA rankings (They are ranked 7th).
Sophomore Addi Smith describes what she has seen from the season so far. “I just think we need to find ourselves a little bit. We have a great group, we’re really close. We just have to play well together.”
One of the strengths of this year’s team is the hitting side. “At times, we hit the ball very well; everyone in the lineup can hit, which is a huge strength, knowing that we have depth,” Vega explains.
Playing in the NWOC is gonna be a big advantage to what Wilsonville has seen so far.
Smith states, “I think we can take a deep breath, the pre-season is over, and now we face a lot less-tough competition. Which will be good for us for now, to just regroup.”
“I think we play well when we do the little things right, and we play solidly and don’t make simple mistakes, we’re really good. We just have to do those things consistently.” Vega describes. “All of us want a chance at a state championship, we just gotta put together the puzzle to get there.”
“I for sure think we’ll play better softball as the league goes on, it’s gonna be how consistent we can be,” Smith states.
Girls’ softball plays its first league game tonight here at 5 PM against Milwaukee.
