The recent ASB and Class Council elections have brought an exciting wave of participation all throughout the school. For those in the race, this was a very exciting opportunity to have a voice in the school and bring change to the upcoming school year. During the campaign period, candidates made posts on Instagram and put up posters in the Commons to convince voters they are the right choice for the position. In addition, they made speeches, if they were running for an ASB position, or created a voter’s pamphlet if they were running for a Class Council role.
Leading up to Election Day, candidates worked hard to connect with their peers and share their goals if they were to be elected. These goals included elements such as plans to improve the school, increasing student involvement, and creating a more inclusive environment. Next year’s elected ASB President, Avery Novitsky, shares her goals for next year: “My goals as President are centered around building a stronger sense of school spirit, increasing student involvement, and creating a positive, memorable experience for every student at WVHS.”
Voting day itself was full of excitement and nervousness for the candidates, as they waited to find out if their efforts paid off. After all the votes were counted, the results were announced. The position of ASB President, as previously mentioned, was won by Avery Novitsky. The Vice President position went to Morgan Christiansen. For Secretary, Odessa Grey earned the role. Next, the new Spirit Commissioners are Brixton Carpenter and Elise Chiovaro. The Community Liaisons are Alyssa Tornai and Alison Vandergon. The Publicity/Communication Manager went to Ava Milanovich and Lilian Tatsumi. The last of the ASB positions went to Eli Stevens and Annabell Pearl, who will be the Sports Commissioners.
Next, the Class Councils were also announced. The tenth-grade Class Council is Joyce Juarez Pedraza, Connor Richmond, and Tully Dalglish as President. Then eleventh grade Class Council consists of Alix Koehler, Jreneii Simina, Valeria Cruz Bautista, and Anna Brenizer as Class President. Finally, the twelfth-grade Class Council is represented by Maisy Scanlan, Maylin Brogren, Mattie Perryman, and Rachael Romanyuk & Risa Merrel as Co-Presidents.
These standings have exited many who have been elected into these positions. One of whom is Anna Brenizer, who is very excited about her position. “Originally, a close friend recommended I do it just for fun, but now that I’m here and have come this far, I truly cannot wait for the opportunities that lie ahead.” Overall, the ASB elections reflected the strong sense of community within the school. Students were able to participate in an important process, and the elected leaders now have the responsibility to represent their peers and follow through on their promises. As the new ASB team steps into their roles, many are looking forward to seeing their ideas come to life and make a positive impact on the school year ahead.
