Last Thursday, Wilsonville High School held its National Honor Society (NHS) induction ceremony. It recognizes students for their achievements in scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
NHS is a nationwide organization that honors high school students who demonstrate strong academic performance while also contributing to their school and community. To be eligible, students typically must maintain a high GPA of a 3.5, participate in extracurricular activities, take on leadership roles, and complete 30 hours of community service.
The event brought in students who where accepted into NHS to celebrate the accomplishments. The ceremony started with an opening speech from the officers, who explained the purpose of NHS and the responsibility that comes with membership.
This year’s inductees included a diverse group of students who have demonstrated excellence both in and out of the classroom. Many are involved in activities such as student government, sports teams, music programs, and volunteer work. Each student was called forward individually to receive their certificate, marking their official induction into the society.
Additionally, the also introduced the officers for next year who include, President: Audrey Ardnt , Vice-President: Samara D’Souza, Secretary: Avani Patel, Treasurer: Anvi Singh, and Historian: Alison Vandergon. These officers were elected by those within the club, one new officer Audrey Arndt, shares her goals for the upcoming year in her new role; “My goals as NHS President are to support and encourage strong participation from members, expand volunteer opportunities, and ensure that all members’ voices are heard and valued. The Wilsonville NHS Chapter has been very successful and I hope to continue building on that success while creating an inclusive and supportive environment for everyone.”
Although this may be an exiting change many current officers are sad about having to give their role over. Vaani Aga reflects on her year as NHS Vice President saying, “I definitely learned a lot from my role as vice president. I was able to work with different community members and help make an impact which extended beyond just our school. It was also good to see students so engaged with their community. ”
Overall, this ceremony brought some exiting new change though countless students. However it also brought a sadness to those leaving NHS behind as they move on to the next part of their life.
