Track season is underway!

Wilsonville's most popular sport kicks off its 2019 season.

On Monday, February 25th, Wilsonville High School’s track and field season officially started. With around 150 athletes participating annually, this sport is our school’s most popular.

There’s a good reason for it, too – no matter what your skill level or interest, there is an event for you. Whether you prefer to run long distance, do short sprints, or show off your strength, the versatility of the program will be beneficial in finding the perfect way to spend your spring.

Junior Kylie Aube has been a part of the track team for two years now, and she’s excited to return for a third. Even a seasoned veteran like Aube can find something different to try out, and she said, “I’m looking forward to trying new events this year, one of those being javelin.”

Every event is a chance to meet new people and find your new favorite activity. Mr. Barkley, who is the head coach, always tells stories of seniors who join for the first time in their final year and end up excelling.

According to Aube, track is a great way to spend the spring months, “It’s a good way to stay in shape and have fun with your friends at the same time.” Whether you’re looking to compete at the highest level, or just to have fun after school, track and field is a great option.

Our students not only love the sport – they’re really good at it too. We consistently send athletes to the state championship meet in May, and our girls have won the NWOC district meet for as long as anyone can remember.

The first meet is March 14th at home against West Linn. Come out and support your Wildcat athletes!
