Lunch reviews with Lucie and Kali: Costco

Now that we’ve settled the Chipotle vs Qdoba feud we are back to our regularly scheduled lunch reviews, this weeks feature: Costco. Thinking back to when we were freshmen we thought the upperclassmen who traveled the distance to Costco were wild; which brings us to the first negative, Costco is a far way out and can often cause stress to make it back on time. Based on personal experience, if you are trying to trek to that side of town you need to leave ASAP right after the bell rings. If you have to wait for all your friends on the opposite side of the school that wait can be agitating.

Once you finally corral all your people the real journey begins. Cruising down 65th or Boeckman is just half of it, the parking lot is a whole new obstacle to tackle. Rarely is there ever upfront parking so a sprint from your spot is almost always necessary once you see a large group trying to beat you to the “door”. Lastly, their menu is relatively limited. The select options can make it tough to accommodate everyone in your party, however, they do have some good stuff.

The items Costco does have on their menu are very popular. They have pizza, hot dogs, churros, chicken bakes, sandwiches, smoothies, salads, and coffee; all of which are very reasonably priced. You can get a slice of pizza for $1.99 or a sandwich and some frozen yogurt for five dollars and some change. It’s hard to deny that that’s a good deal when that’s what one Starbucks drink costs!

Costco also has the student lunch rush down to a tee. There may be a long line of students, but the employees have a smooth flowing system that gets kids in and out of there. By the time you order and pay, the person behind you is ordering over your shoulder and your slice of pizza is waiting on the counter next to you before you even have the chance to put your change in your wallet.

Costco may have to be a lunch destination you plan ahead of time because its distance from the school requires a mad dash to the car, but once you’re inside it’s a quick in and out. It has a limited menu but what it does have are quality items that are budget friendly.
