Jazz band places second in districts
If you walk into Wilsonville High School early before school you will hear the beautiful tasteful intonations of the Wilsonville High School Jazz band.
The Wilsonville Jazz band recently competed in the NWOC jazz band competition. Wilsonville High School Jazz Band went to Scappoose High School for the competition. The band went and listened to the other bands perform. The band then warmed up, rehearsed, and performed. Wilsonville had performances and concerts in town to prepare for competitions. Jazz Band placed second place behind Milwaukie High School in the league.
Saxophonist Gavin Fulbright said he was proud of the band’s performance and is looking to sustain the success heading into other festivals, “We are very excited for the upcoming festivals and are looking to qualify for state.” Gavin says that waking up early has been hard but he enjoys playing the music. “I enjoy the music because it allows the freedom to be emotional. Jazz has much more emotion in it than classical.”
It looks like Jazz Band will have a successful year and a bountiful competition season.
