A Clackamas and Oregon City combined girls’ lacrosse team traveled to Reiser Stadium this past Tuesday for a heated matchup against our Cats. Wilsonville’s varsity squad came out on top with a final score of 19 to 13. 

Junior Avery Lanz, a midfielder and attacker, played an incredible game, finishing the game with eight goals and an 80% shot accuracy. Lanz also managed to force a turnover, recover two ground balls and win possession of the draw thirteen times. 

Midfielders Maura Schramm and Fiona Dunn ended the game with two draw possessions and two forced turnovers a piece, not to mention their combined 9 ground ball recoveries. Schramm scored twice, with a shot accuracy of 50%, and Dunn scored four times, with a shot accuracy of 66%. 

Chloe Robinson, the Cats’ freshman goalie, played both halves in goal, and despite getting shot on 18 times, kept the Pioneer/Cavalry shooters to just 13 goals. 

This is her first year playing goalie, and with less than a month of practice to prepare, Robinson’s quick saves and efficient clears, helped the Cats’ maintain their momentum and ultimately win their second game of the season. 

Alexis McIlmoil praised Robinson’s quick learning saying, “She hasn’t played very long, but she’s really good. She’s improved a lot.” 

The Cats’ roster has felt some pressure this season, with numerous starters nursing injuries and even temporarily losing Ellie Grano to a COVID exposure; although, this Thursday they are set to face off against Lake Oswego in what is sure to be a worthy demonstration of Wilsonville’s grit.
