Wilsonville Falls To Lincoln 1-0

Greg Artman

Joey Friedman continues to be a leader on a great Wilsonville squad.

The Wilsonville High School Wildcats took on the Lincoln Cardinals in a top 10 matchup that could be a statement win for the victor.

With Wilsonville ranked second in all of 5A, and going into the game with a 4-0-1 record taking on the sixth ranked Cardinals, it was a nail-biter the whole way. With both teams playing suffocating defense it was tough for  either squad to get a good look on goal.

Both goalies played well– Chase Nelson had a couple nice saves to keep Wilsonville in the game.

But a lot of credit should go to Alexander Rhoades. The Cards’ goalie didn’t give up a goal to a usually potent Wilsonville scoring attack. His piece-de-resistance came in the second half with about 20 minutes left and time dwindling for the Cats.

Toshi Kondo attempted a beautiful shot in the upper right hand corner of the goal, and Rhoades saved the shot in what was ultimately Wilsonville’s best look.

The Lincoln defense that kept Wilsonville at bay was led by defender Sean Miller who stopped many Wilsonville possession’s with little effort.

The boys next game is taking place on Thursday the 23rd in Westview hopefully they can bounce back from a gut wrenching loss to the Cardinals.
