Twilight on the soccer field

It’s always a special occasion when both the boys and girls soccer teams get to play at the same place on the same night.

On Thursday, September 21 the girls’ soccer team played Grant High School and the boys soccer team played Newberg High School at Randall Stadium.  The girls game started at 4:30.  “We went in knowing they were the team to beat,” declared Sierra Bishop, a senior captain on the team.  Grant High School has already scored twenty-one points this season, averaging four to five points a  game.  “Holding them 0-0 was an amazing thing and our team played an amazing game,” Bishop explained.  Next week the girls’ team will host their first league game against Rex Putnam.

The boys game was a different story.  Later in the night, the Wildcats faced off against Newberg High School.  After a scoreless first half, the Wildcats decided to change their strategy.  They subbed in senior Jake Hallin and began to aggressively attack the goal.  There was a scramble to the box and the goalkeeper went to cut off Jake’s angle, but he managed to chip it over to put the Wildcats in the lead. The team then kept the ball on their side of the field to ensure that the Tigers would not tie the game.  They will begin league by traveling to Putnam High School on Tuesday, September 26.
