Wildcats prepare for the 2017/2018 season
October 13, 2017
A player of the year, a one of a kind athlete, a 6’5 post presence, and a superb team leader. These are short descriptions of the four graduates that will be absent from the Wildcat boys basketball team as we near the 2017-2018 season. A fantastic graduating class, including Zach Reichle, Harrison Steiger, Zac Woodworth, and Kyle Willett, will definitely be missed, winning two state championships before their departure. But the future remains bright for the cats, with new senior leaders and an abundance of young talent. Seniors Caleb Larson and Zac Rosetti will play big roles on the team this year, as both game time providers, and team leaders.
Out of a 15 man roster, 11 will be returning for this upcoming season, and even though the four that were lost had large impacts, this is good news for the Cats. This team will no doubt be exciting to watch with lots of speed, shooting and even some high flyers. Make sure not to blink or you might miss sophomore Dakota Reber catching an alley oop for a slam. The sophomore was a part of the Capital City Classic slam dunk contest as a freshman and now will hopefully take those highlights into the game.
Five returning juniors, now seniors, have big shoes to fill as leaders on this team. Zac Rosetti showed flashes of being a leader last year but will have to do more to keep the young team focused and always improving. It will be fun to see which returners step up this year, and in what way.
The Cats season opener will be held at West Linn on the 15th of December. Hopefully the Cats can find the leadership and fill the roles they need to have a successful season and possibly make another playoff push.
