Do top colleges really offer something special?
College is one of the biggest and hardest decisions that a student will make, it guides you to a career that you will possibly pursue for the rest of your life. There are many factors to consider when choosing a college like cost, courses, location, and extracurricular activities.
Going to top colleges is something that many students spend their entire high school career striving for. Sometimes the name of the school is more valuable to them than the experience and the knowledge that they gain from their college years. There are benefits that come with these colleges but a lot of other colleges bring you the same benefits for a lower cost. So does going to a top college offer a lot more benefits than other colleges?
Sometimes the best college doesn’t mean that it is the best college for you. But there are some things that top/ivy league colleges will bring you, connections. “I’m excited to meet a lot of brilliant minds,” Senior Miguel Tejeda says, “I want to be in a space where everyone is in the same mental state.”
Meeting people like the sons and daughters of successful businessmen and women, could help you advance your career in the future depending on what you want to do. These are different opportunities that a top college will bring you that other colleges won’t necessarily have.
But, going to the college that fits you the best is what will bring you the most success and opportunity.
You could go to Harvard and not take advantage of it, or you could go to a community college and get every ounce of knowledge and every experience that you can.
That’s what college is about, it is about soaking up what a specific college has to offer because it’s what you love, and to do that it has to be a place where you can learn, study, and fit into the puzzle. So, every college offers something special you just have to make it special.
