Wilsonville Baseball smokes St. Helens in the first games of the series
Wilsonville takes the first couple games of the series vs. St. Helens.
After Wilsonville took the first two games of a three games series against the St. Helens Lions Wilsonville looks to end the series on a high note. Wilsonville has been playing very well on both sides of the ball, outscoring St. Helens 22-1 over the first two games of the series. This sentiment was affirmed by Keenan Sanford: “We have been really solid on both sides and if we continue to do that we should have no problems.”
Sanford had a performance for the ages on Tuesday, the first game of the series, when he threw a no-hitter against St. Helens. The senior threw 5 innings and 7 strikeouts to collect his first high school no-hitter. He claimed this after his legendary performance: “It was great. I trusted the defense— they made great plays numerous times and then competed in the strike zone.” Wilsonville cruised to a 10-0 victory.
That Wilsonville success continued Wednesday, where Wilsonville crushed St. Helens 12-1 off the back of a great pitching performance by Justin Schramm. The bats came alive, especially in the third inning, where Wilsonville put up a 4 spot.
Heading into the third and final game of the series, Wilsonville looks to complete the sweep against the Lions and have all the momentum heading into a series against Hillsboro. The last game against St. Helens is on Friday at 5 o’clock.
