Boy Scouts Fundraiser

Kristi Halstead

Doughnuts fill the trunk of Kristi Halstead’ car. At the end of the fundraiser, the team had raised over $2000!

On Sunday, March 27, 2022, I helped sell donuts for local Boy Scouts. We were selling them at Dutch Bros Coffee in Wilsonville, Oregon.

We were selling the donuts to make money to pay for a trip to a Scout Camp near Detroit Lake near Salem, Oregon. At Scout Camp, we have a campfire, we go swimming, we cook all our food over a campfire, and we sleep outside in tents and open cabins.

I worked with my mom Kristi, my Scoutmaster David, another Scout named Joey, my troopmaster Charlie, and our grubmaster, Alex.

The fundraiser started at 8:30AM and ended at 12:30PM.  My scout troop has 18 members and we raised $2,862.

We choose Dutch Brothers because the donuts go well with coffee and Dutch Brothers gets lots of customers.

What  I look forward to at scout camp is: Rifle shooting, rafting, sleeping in a cabin or tent, having a campfire, and cooking meals over a fire.

I joined Scouts because my parents and other adults explained how much Scouts helped with Leadership Skills, and how the Scout oath offered good examples to live your life by. My mom and I also love camping and being outdoors. We get to do lots of camping and hiking.

I joined Cub Scouts when I was in 3rd grade, and then I transferred to Boy Scouts when I was about 13 years old. We  Play games, talk about upcoming events, hold  scout elections for key leaders of my troop, and Patrol Leaders Council, or PLC, meetings right after the main scout meeting is finished for the night.

One of the things we do as scouts is volunteer work. Some of the service work we have done includes shoveling barkdust for a trail and walking path at Cook Park. We also did road cleanup along Wilsonville Road for Jay Puppo’s State Farm. In the summer, we help collect money for the Rotary at Wilsonville Park summer concerts.

Scout Camp starts on Friday, June 3rd, 2022. My next fundraiser is on Saturday, April 16, 2022.
