T&F: NWOC district meet & state qualifiers
The end of the season for most athletes on the track and field team meant it was time for the NWOC season to come to a close.
In style, Wilsonville boys and girls teams both took home district titles and are going to be sending several athletes to Hayward Field at the University of Oregon for the 5A track and field state championship. We will detail the story of each state qualifying athlete.
First up on the list is Gregory Keswick, a junior this year, who ran a PR of 50.69 seconds and set a time within half a second of the school record. Doubling the distance covered, senior Ben McClelland qualified for the state meet in dominant fashion, winning with a time of 2:02.58 seconds.
Wilsonville also sent out a ton more runners in addition to those superstars, including Jacob McClelland, Ella Milanovich, and cross country 5K school record holder Mason Weisgerber.
Wilsonville also sent out both a boys 4×100 and 4×400 meter relay team. The 4×100 team consists of Gregory Keswick, Cooper Hiday, Wesley Hur and Rocco Marshall.
The 4×400 relay team that qualified as #1 out of NWOC consist of Brandt Jackson, Ben McClelland and Nathan Wilde who both ran in the 800 final the same day, as well as Gregory Keswick who also ran the 400.
Wilsonville also sent out a wide range of throwers this year, sending Logan Thebiay and Chase Hix on the boys’ end. Avery DeVincenzi and Kylie Fox will also be heading to Hayward, DeVincenzi in shot put and Fox in the javelin. Thebiay qualified in every throwing event.
Girls throwing just might hit a peak in the next 2-3 years as the overwhelming majority of athletes representing their schools were underclassmen this year.
Jumpers for Wilsonville have been scoring major points for the team. Rocco Marshall won his long jump, however he will not be participating in the state meet due to an injury. Kellen Hartford however, who finished third, qualified for the state meet from this and thus is taking his place.
Kellen Hartford also qualifies for the high jump and the triple jump. He will be joined by Caroline De La Motte and Ashlyn Hartford, who both qualified for the long and triple jump, as well as Cassandra Wedin in the long jump and Grace Kelso in the high jump.
Wilsonville also sent out two 4×100 teams to state and a 4×400 team to state, which will be extremely useful as track and field relay teams stack double points for the overall team score.
