Boys soccer takes out 6A Liberty
On Thursday, September 22nd, Wilsonville boys soccer took on Liberty at home, their 5th 6A opponent of the year. Wilsonville left Randall Stadium with a 2-0 win and a 3-3 record. “It’s extremely important to get our guys to push as much as they can against the best teams in the state,” said Wilsonville head coach Ian Reschke.
One of Wilsonville’s standouts in their win was senior Yaseen Mubashir in the midfield. “He had a great game, a great performance, gave us a shot of energy, and some scoring that we desperately needed.” added Reschke. Yaseen didn’t score himself, but he was key in distributing the ball. Wilsonville dominated possession, especially in the first half, with Mubashir being key for possession on both ends.
Wilsonville has 9 seniors on the team who have helped out the development of some younger players. “They’ve been teaching us a lot and showed us how to improve, and being the examples since day one,” says Ruben Velazquez, the sophomore who broke the 0-0 tie in the second half. The other score came from fellow sophomore Alex Aguiar.
“The future is bright, every year we graduate guys and you know there is always going to be new guys to fill in,” said Reschke. Wilsonville currently has 6 sophomores and 2 freshman on the varsity team.
Wilsonville, now 4-4, will next go on the road to play a strong, 6 win NWOC opponent in La Salle Prep on Monday, October 3rd.
