Are students caffeine intakes becoming a problem?
Caffeine is a very controversial opinion when it comes to students drinking too much. Is it becoming a problem? Is it affecting students learning?
The lines during lunch to get caffeine are insane. Is it taking over students? Dutch and Starbucks are in hand daily when you walk into school. During lunch, in the morning, and after school practices. How much caffeine are kids drinking in our high school daily?
On November 8th, I posted a poll on our Instagram asking if teens are drinking more than 135 grams of caffeine a day or less. The results were surprising. Looking at the data, most kids in the school are drinking less, but there still is an outstanding number of caffeine addicts!
Keely Sanford, a senior, spends around $50 weekly at Dutch Brothers, with a superb amount of 9,821-lifetime points on the Dutch app. Keely says, “Caffeine has affected my daily life 100%, if I don’t have it I feel as if I can’t function properly.” Do you think this is a problem? I feel as if caffeine is what teens are running on to stay awake and get through the day.
But, after a certain amount of time and a certain amount of caffeine intake, you wonder if it affects them anymore. “I have Dutch every day, and it still affects me. When I drink caffeine it’s a good plus to my day.” Sanford says. I would like to see students come to school with no caffeine intake for a day and see how they act and their mood. Caffeine can be known to increase anxiety, heighten alertness, and increase your heart rate. If we were to cut this out do you think students would do better in school and be more focused? It’s a question that is very controversial.
Overall, caffeine is hard to stay away from nowadays when access to it is easy. Could you go for one week without caffeine? Does caffeine affect you that much?
