Girls Soccer celebrates after their win v.s Woodburn. They are set to play Crescent Valley for the State Championship.

Wilsonville girls soccer made the trip up to Summit High School on Tuesday, November 8th. Despite the weather with snow falling and covering the ground, Wilsonville came away with a win 1-0 v.s Summit.

Going into the game, Wilsonville was ranked 7th and Summit was ranked 3rd. As Summit was ranked higher, they had an easier path through the playoffs. That was until they faced the Wilsonville Wildcats. Wilsonville didn’t let the weather or long bus ride affect them and came out strong. They were tied until the time ran out and ultimately came out with a win 4-2 in PK’s.

The team camaraderie was at an all time high and the team celebrated and had a breath of relief post win. “It felt exhilarating. It was almost a relief because we fought so hard for the win. It felt very deserved.” said junior Kenley Whittaker. “Relief is the best word to describe how I felt. We knew it would be a difficult battle but I don’t think we were prepared for the stress and mental weight the game would bring. After the win, it was a wave of relief and happiness for everyone.” said junior goalie Jasmine Brown who had some amazing saves in the PK’s.

Wilsonville is set to play Crescent Valley who is ranked 8th via OSAA. “We are learning as much as we can about the CV (Crescent Valley) playing style. We know it is going to be just as mental as it is physical so we will be doing a lot of mental training as well.” said Whittaker. Brown agreed, adding “We are having longer practices but not overworking ourselves completely. We are just working on the playing styles that go against CV’s and fixing up mistakes we saw at Summit.”

The 5A State Championship will be held at 1:00 PM at Hillsboro Stadium between #7 Wilsonville and #8 Crescent Valley.
