Wilsonville girls soccer: Championship preview
Wilsonville and Crescent Valley two underdogs battle it out at Hillsboro stadium for the 5a girls soccer state title.
After winning the state title last year Wilsonville obviously came into this season with high expectations, even after losing Lindsey Antonson (who broke the oregon girls soccer goals record last year) as well as many other fantastic players this teams goal was still hoisting the state championship trophy.
Wilsonville had a great regular season with a record of 12-5-1 and won yet another NWOC title, all good things however going into the state playoffs as a #7 seed no one saw how hot this team would get over the last couple weeks. Beating the #10 seed Woodburn Bulldogs in the first round was a solid game played by Wilsonville before they went to Eugene and took on the Thurston Colts in the second round.
Thurston a 5a power house was ranked #2 in the state and had high hopes of their own before Wilsonville went to Eugene and shut them out defeating Thurston 1-0. Next up was the Summit Storm a team that had just moved down from 6a and was the #3 ranked team in the state. In multiple inches of snow in Bend Wilsonville took Summit the distance and beat them in penalty kicks 4-2.
Another trip to the championship was well earned for Wilsonville while on the other side of the bracket comes the #8 seed Crescent Valley Raiders. Crescent Valley beat #9 seed Putnam in the first round then took on mighty #1 seed Caldera and beat them 2-1. In the semis they defeated North Eugene/Triangle Lake.
Crescent Valley looks to stop Wilsonville in their tracks while Wilsonville looks to win back to back Girls soccer state titles. We will see which one of these Cinderella stories will come true on Saturday the 12th.
