Finals week is notoriously known for marking the end of the first semester, which goes from Wednesday the 25th to Friday the 27th. It is easily the most dreaded event of the year by WVHS students. All of the studying that takes place over the course of a semester is built up to Finals.

As finals come closer, teachers are teaching faster, and time passes quicker, students are forced to decide for themselves to either match with the heavier workload or fall behind even more. 

With finals comes a flow of homework, study guides, projects, and tests which places a lot of pressure on students. These assignments usually take up a massive part of the student’s grade in the class. 

Many students argue that finals projects and tests should be more spaced out, instead of all taking place in a 3 day span. Junior Luke Larson says “I think that having finals for three days straight can be a lot, especially if you’re taking a couple AP classes.”

The grueling 3 day finals stretch isn’t completely set in stone, some classes take a different approach, choosing to place finals before the 3 day stretch. This practice is both appreciated and hated, it depends on the student and how they prepare for finals.

“I much prefer finals to happen on the actual finals day and not before, I like having breathing room for more time to study if needed,” chimes in Junior Noah Lubisich. While the 3 days are very taxing on students, they’re also reliable.

Having a set date where students know the final test will occur or the final project is due can be very helpful. It gives students time to plan out their work according to the number of days before finals for each class.

Although changing finals dates are usually communicated to students it can still become a hassle to plan around a changed date. Overall when a student prefers to take their finals comes down to their personal opinion as both methods have their own pros and cons.
