Seniors organize a toiletry drive for local families
Wilsonville comes together as a school to donate and help improve our community.
Students Emily Barry and Eli Sievers ran this year’s toiletry drive this week. Students brought toiletries to their second-period classes. Toothpaste, brushes, shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, dental floss, razors, and shaving cream are the products that the Family Empowerment Center would greatly appreciate at this time. Donations should be unused and unopened.
Items can be brought into classes during the second period, students will give their bags of toiletries to their teacher. Students can drop their products off in bags around the school with pink hearts illustrating the toiletry drive. Barry and Sievers will then come and pick up the bags, and drop them off at the Family Empowerment Center.
“The toiletry drive is a great opportunity for students to help out local families in need of basic toiletry items. Donations are being collected from 2/13-2/17. Students are able to donate items ranging from toothbrushes, soap, deodorant, etc. We had a great success rate last year and we were able to collect a lot of items that helped out many families. We are hoping to reward the class that is able to bring in the most items.”
Toiletry drives can be extremely beneficial to families and people in need of these supplies.
Malak Elmanhawy, a senior who donated to the drive, said, “I dropped off two packs of toothbrushes that I had purchased from Walgreens. I handed it to Mr. Christopher, my second-period teacher, and donated it to the toiletry drive! I wanted to help as much as I could, and I know that this small gesture could help many families. This small thing made me grateful that I could help people.”
As a school, we want to take advantage of our ability to come together and collect donations for people in need, and we’re thankful to Sievers and Barry for stepping up to lead this drive!
