Staff and students crave Girl Scout cookies
Spring is near which means Girl Scout cookie season is finally here! Every year over 1 million Girl Scouts participate in selling their fan-favorite cookies.
Many people anticipate as the cookie season approaches, including freshman Grady Weise. “My favorite Girl Scout cookie flavor is Thin Mints,” Weise added that Thin Mints are also his friends’ favorite cookie flavor.
The excellent cookie debate is one that people talk about every year. Which cookie flavor is the best? It usually comes down to the top three: Tagalongs, Thin Mints, and the Somoa. Principal Schmidt enjoys both Somoas and Thin Mints, or anything with chocolate.
Senior Keely Sanford whose favorite cookie is hands down the Thin Mint, recognizes there is more to the season than just the delicious treat, “I like that I get to support the youth, and I know the money will help support their futures.” When the scouts sell cookies they are able to learn life skills like money management, decision-making, and people skills.
In addition to character building, through selling cookies in their troop the young girls are able to earn badges. These badges represent the hard work they had put forth. Through cookie sales, the troops raise money for both donations and future volunteer projects they want to partake in.
Each troop sets a goal prior to the season and then gets to decide where their profits will be going. When buying cookies this year be sure to inquire about the Scouts’ goals for the upcoming year.
Many consumers have opted to order their cookies online over the past few years. Troop 6000 sells their cookies online and supports families living in temporary housing all throughout New York City. This incredible organization allows Girl Scouts to join together, make friends, earn badges, and build life skills all while their families transition into permanent housing.
