Wilsonville Head Coach Chris Roche gives some advice to Juniors Kallen Gutridge and Kyle Counts. Wilsonville faces Crescent Valley tonight at 8:15 PM.

In the first game of their stay in Corvallis, Wilsonville took down the Woodburn Bulldogs 46-26 at Gill Coliseum. The game started off slow, with Junior Guard Kallen Gutridge getting out to a slow start, missing his first 5 threes of the game. Wilsonville was fine though, as Junior Forward Kyle Counts stepped up in his place, scoring 10 of the Wildcats first 12 points.

Wilsonville’s defense was stout throughout, allowing only 3 points in the 1st, as Woodburn couldn’t buy a bucket. They shot below 30% from 3 throughout and struggled with tough shots inside. Down 31-19 going into the 4th, they tried picking up their pace offensively and shooting more 3’s, but nothing worked. Wilsonville would knock down their free throws late and go on to the semifinals against Crescent Valley.

Counts led Wilsonville in scoring, with Gutridge eventually getting out of his struggle to finish 2nd. Woodburn didn’t have anyone in the double digits, with Sophomore Forward Cruz Veliz leading the Bulldogs with 9.

Crescent Valley,  a 15 seed, has shocked everyone by making it all the way to the Semifinals, narrowly escaping both 2nd seed Churchill and 7 seed La Salle Prep.

Wilsonville will face Crescent Valley at 8:15 PM tonight, with a win the Wildcats will be back in the State Championship to defend their title at 8:30 PM Friday night, while with a loss they would be in the 3rd/5th place game at 2:15 PM Friday.
