Class of 2026 takes on upcoming schedule changes
With the end of the school year coming quick, underclassmen are beginning to think about the years ahead of them at Wilsonville High School. As many students know, the 2023-2024 school year holds an imminent change to their daily lives: the School Schedule.
Next year at Wilsonville, students will partake in eight classes per semester as opposed to the “usual” six class schedule. Although students are unaware of the definite changes in the schedule as of now, underclassmen in particular have already begun to formulate their own ideas and opinions concerning the changes.
Freshman Ellie Shimmon says that she looking forward to the change, at least a little bit. Concerning the current schedule, she explains that she is indifferent. “It doesn’t make me mad or anything… I like block days and I also like regular days.” However, looking towards the future, she is already anticipating all of the new class choices she will have next year.
“I like that we get more classes in the day and have more opportunities to earn credits for our high school resumes.” Shimmon has been thinking about the pros and cons of the new schedule. She also admits that she wishes that summer courses were still available to get the less favorable classes out of the way.
Raina Simonton, freshman, says that she does not like block days and she would rather just have periods one through six everyday. Looking forward, Raina admits that she is not looking forward to the schedule next year. “I would probably just have all eight periods, but I would want to have them all in one day.”
Overall, the schedule change is hard and fast and the underclassmen seem to be looking forward to a fresh start and a new daily routine. The classes of 2026 and beyond are excited to be receiving the opportunity to try more things and experience a wider range of electives.
