Wilsonville baseball goes on a four game win streak
Wilsonville baseball knocks it out of the park yet again. A recent 4 game win streak excites Wildcat baseball fans.
The Wilsonville Wildcats’ baseball team has started a four-game win streak against various opponents. This is welcome news following the Coach Bobs National Invitational games down in Arizona. The multigame success is met with open arms by Wilsonville fans, but begs the question: how much longer will this success last?
The first of the four wins came against Bend High School following the loss against Central Catholic. The game started off with a quick lead by the Wildcats after gaining six runs in the second inning of the game, the Bend Lava Bears struggled to recover from the strong opening, and the game ended as a Wildcat Victory. The final score was 8 to 3.
The next big win was against Grants Pass. Just like the game against Bend, Wilsonville took a strong opening play and scored two runs in the first inning, and gained three more runs later. Grant’s pass was unable to stop the wildcat offense and our defense stayed strong by only allowing them to score one run. That game against the Cavemen ended 5 to 1, with another outstanding Wilsonville win.
The next two games were against the Hillsboro Spartans, a school that proved to be a much more difficult team to defeat. In the first game against Hillsboro High School, the scores remained 0 to 0 for most of the game. The game only turned in favor of Wilsonville after an incredible double-run play in the sixth inning. No more runs were scored after that and the final score was 2 to 0. The last and most recent victory came after the second game against Hillsboro and it played out much like the first game but both teams got more runs against each other. The latest victory for the Wildcats ended with a score of 4 to 2.
The four-game victory was met with great praise by Wildcat fans. To make more sense of what this means for the team heading into the league we asked players Berkley Reents and Luke Larson a few questions about the games we played. First, we asked Berkley Reents about what game was his favorite, he said, “The best game was the Grants Pass game, they were ranked 11 in 6a when we played them and Wade Hagey threw 6 innings of 1-run baseball, Owen Eggert came in and threw more strikes to close it out. The defense has been locking it down while the team continues to improve in chemistry.”
In a follow-up interview, we also asked Luke Larson, another Wilsonville baseball player, who some of the key players were in the Hilsburo game, he said, “Pitching has been great Wade Hagey, Luke Haener, and Justin Schramm, and we’ve definitely manufactured some runs from throughout the lineup and the bench during a close game with Hillsboro.”
Overall, we have seen great success with the varsity baseball team here at Wilsonville and we look forward to seeing more success in the future.
