Speech and debate goes to state!
The Speech and debate team has had an amazing year so far, and continue so work hard in preparation for state! William Baarsch, Henry Dietrich, Jared Kure and Marsha Mironova are all district champions and state qualifiers. Paige Jackson, Kylie McCormic and Ava Riddle are all District runner ups and state qualifiers as well.
Marsha Mironova, a senior, is one of the state qualifiers. Preparing for state, at least for here, is ironically easier to prepare for compared to the other tournaments she’s contested in. “After every tournament we get feedback from the judges, and I’ve had a couple of good conversations with the judges during district qualifiers, so overall it’s basically just solidifying the structure of my arguments and everything.” Masha also goes on to explain the topic she will be debating, “The resolution is the justice of the supreme court out to be term limited.”
Henry Detrick, a senior, is also one of the state qualifiers. In preparation for state he explains that “I am practicing for my program oral interp, and that just requires a lot of memorizing and being able to give the same amount of performance for each round even when we have to go in, in the early morning.” Henry is in the Speech portion of Speech and Debate, and has been working diligently on his topic all year with helpful feedback from the judgedes. He is very excited to go to state because of the amazing opportunities it brings for him and his team.
The Speech and Debate team go to state on April 29, and all the state qualifiers are working hard to make sure their topics are well thought through and perfect to compete. With feelings of both excitement and nervousness, this year’s speech and debate team is going to state well prepared.
