Wilsonville track and field: Oregon Relays recap

Avery Devincenzi

Juniors Avery Devincenzi and Kiera Easterly posing at Hayward Field in Eugene. They both competed at Oregon Relays.

Hayward Field, located in Eugene at the University of Oregon is one of the nicest track and field stadiums in the entire world. Multiple Wilsonville track and field athletes had the privilege to compete there this past weekend against other amazing competitors from all around the state at the Oregon Relays.

The Oregon Relays is an invitational meet held every year. Many athletes from all over Oregon are in attendance. The athletes compete in multiple running, jumping, and throwing events. This meet is a very large deal for student athletes all over the state.

Avery Devincenzi, a junior who competes in the throwing events; discus and shotput, was in attendance this past weekend at Hayward. This was her second time competing at the amazing field, as she competed in the 2022 State championships. She shares her experience about competing at this, for most, once in a lifetime stadium. “Competing at Hayward is unimaginable, to put it into words; it’s surreal. The atmosphere is incredible and the energy is unmatched.”  She is hoping to be able to compete at Hayward one more time this season, to come back for the 2023 state championships.

Junior Kenley Whittaker also competed at Hayward Field during the Oregon Relays. She competed in the 4×1, 100 meter dash, 100 meter hurdles, and the 300 meter hurdles. This was Whittaker’s first time competing at Hayward, or ever visiting. She describes her time at Hayward as “magical.” Kenley shares that the best part of her experience of competing at Hayward Field was, “being able to use the incredible facilities and getting a personal record in hurdles.”

The track and field athletes will continue to work hard, and compete at their best for the rest of their season. Good luck to Wilsonville Track and Field for the remainder of their meets, and to accomplish all of their goals.
