Junior Mary Matthews meets her teammates at home after she hit her second homerun of the game. Wilsonville came away with a 10-1 win against the Canby Cougars.

Wilsonville softball scored 40 runs in two games on the road this week. The Wildcats beat Centennial 16-1 and Parkrose 24-0.

On Tuesday, May 2nd, Wilsonville was on a run against Centennial, scoring runs every inning, eventually leading to a 16-1 run rule. “It was a good game. We were able to get our bats going quickly and were aggressive against the pitcher. Our defense was strong and we hope to bring this same attitude in our future games.” said junior first baseman, Talia Valdez. “We came out very aggressive in our at-bats which we were previously struggling to do against the slower pitchers in our league. We also played a clean defense and adjusted well to the dirt.” added junior Grace Wilson. Senior Anna Jardin got the win with six strikeouts, zero walks, and only one run. The hot bats alongside Jardin in the circle, created this big win for the Wildcats.

With a quick turnaround, Wilsonville played at Parkrose the next day. Wilsonville scored a whopping 24 runs. “We carried our high-scoring game into the game v.s Parkrose. We started slow but picked up the bats and energy as the game went on. It definitely wasn’t our best game but we did enough to win.” said Valdez. “We adjusted pretty well to the pitcher throughout the game. Their rocky dirt was something we struggled with as well as our energy throughout the game,” said Wilson. Jardin and freshman Paige Hibbard combined forces to shut out the Broncos. Jardin struck out eight with two walks, no runs, and one hit. Hibbard faced 4, striking out one, with no walks and only one hit.

Wilsonville has a big week coming up. A league championship could be up for grabs between Wilsonville and Canby on May 10th. Wilsonville is currently 9-1 in the league and Canby is 8-1. Wilsonville beat Canby 10-1 when they played them last. Wilsonville will also face off against league rival, La Salle, and new league addition Hood River.
