Former First Lady Barbara Bush died at the age of 92 on Tuesday, according to a statement released by the office of George H. W. Bush.

In a statement issued last Sunday by the same spokesperson, the former First Lady had elected to receive “comfort care” over additional medical treatment after a series of hospitalizations, according to NPR.

“It will not surprise those who know her that Barbara Bush has been a rock in the face of her failing health, worrying not for herself — thanks to her abiding faith — but for others,” it said. “She is surrounded by a family she adores, and appreciates the many kind messages and especially the prayers she is receiving.”, NPR reports.

Mrs. Bush was one of only two women in history to be both the wife of a president, as well as the mother of another. She was married to former president George  H. W. Bush in 1945 , and had her first son, former president George W. Bush in 1946.

She will be survived by her husband of 72 year,s George H. W. bush, her five children and seventeen grandchildren.
