The year of the walkout

Mary Kimball

Early on Friday, April 20th, around 50 students walked out to the football field to protest gun violence.  Today is the 19th anniversary of the Columbine High School massacre. At 10:00am students got up from their desks to send a messege saying that they dont want to feel unsafe in schools.  A senior Lauryn Seibel commented, “We have voices and we need to heard because we should not be at risk in our learning environment.” She also participated in the walk out in March. She believes this is the way for people to hear her voice.  The end goal is to have tighter gun laws so that school shootings end. This can be considered hard to do becuase the country is divided. Students across the nation have found a way to peacful protest and it is having a strong impact.
