The need for comfort is one of the most humane cravings that people have. It’s something our brains are wired to search for, the want of security for something to be there. Things like foods, people, and objects can all have more of a meaning to a person.
Places can be especially comforting as they allow you to immerse yourself within them fully. It’s a stable environment that usually stays in one place which people can always rely on existing.
One of Emery Olivariz’s most loved places is the beach. She explains that “my mom used to always take us there when I was little, just good memories.”
The joy we feel in certain places tends to particularly tie into who we share our moments there with. Sometimes the people in the environment can make or break whether it is a place that you end up loving or not.
Olivariz has comfort that comes from a familiar tie. Her mom creating the time to spend a day at the beach in what could be the sun, but mostly cold Oregon wind.
Taylor Nichols enjoys browsing the many aisles of media Barnes and Nobles has to offer. “I like books so much and it smells good in there,” Nichols says as an avid reader.
When she goes to the bookstore she loves going with friends and taking the time to visit the books she’s already read. Making sure to “check up on them” and debate buying second copies with different covers that she finds more eye-catching.
Both Olivariz and Nichols find their comfort in a place that only holds well-spent memories, a place in which they can share moments with other people they care for.
People’s favorite spots may just be places they enjoy being in, usually something along the lines of their own room.
However, an environment that brings these strong senses of comfort can help get through harder times, just to have fun, or spend time with themselves or other people who also enjoy the place.
Favorite places can bring a level of comfort humans will always desire. An easily attainable comfort without needing to do much at all.
