PSU alumni joins Wilsonville soccer program

The new school year always brings about changes: new teachers, new classes, and for many, the start of the fall sports season. For the JV Girls Soccer team though, this year means more than just the beginning of another season – it also means a new coach.

Last year’s JV coach, Physics teacher Mr. Koll, has been moved to the varsity assistant for the 2018 season, leaving a spot on the staff open and waiting to be filled. Interviews were held at the end of last school year, and junior Maddie Giese was a part of that process, “We were looking for someone that was qualified and knew soccer really well,” she explained, “but also someone who fit the style of play that our program uses.”

They found just that person in Dallas Malone, a former soccer player herself. Dallas is from Oregon, and played at Thurston High School, where she helped her team secure a state championship. She later went on to play for Portland State University, but after three ACL tears, her playing career came to a halt.

This is her first coaching job, and she’s excited to be part of the Wilsonville soccer program. When asked about the team, she remarked, “They’re definitely a fun group of girls, with lots of energy.” Having said that, she also mentioned, “It takes a lot to get them focused, but that’s something we’ll work on.” Even with the challenges of coaching a group of high school girls, Dallas said she’s very glad to be working with the team this season.
