Living in Oregon, students are no strangers to the changing weather. It may be sunny and warm one day and cold and raining the next without warning. The cold and harsh weather can easily change one’s motivation and emotions.
The students at Wilsonville have come to a consensus and say that the warm weather is much preferred. The warmer weather encourages students to come to school and do their work, with the possibility of getting to work outside.
When the weather is dark and gloomy, students aren’t as motivated to walk into the school with the risk of getting wet from the rain. Students don’t want to have to sit in a classroom and listen to the harsh rain or even hail coming from outside.
The students who also do outdoor sports much prefer practicing in the warm weather rather than the rain. Junior Izzy Wellhouser says that “the warm weather makes me want to be outside” rather than the cold weather, which she says “I avoid when I can.”
Does anyone really like the cold weather? With the right clothes and some warm shoes, Izzy says that it “can be tolerable, but I still don’t like it,” which many students agree with. Warm weather motivates students more and allows them to enjoy coming to school.
Senior Calli Weaving says that the warmer weather encourages her to go to classes that require walking outside. “Mr. Jenkins’s class isn’t in the school, so when it’s raining and cold out, I don’t want to walk all the way there,” she says, but when it’s sunny, she doesn’t have a problem walking outside.
All students long for warm weather towards the end of the year. Being in the cold and rain for too long can be discouraging and give you a sense of impending doom. But the second the sun hits your face, feelings improve, motivation comes back, and life is good.
