The seniors’ last day of school is approximately a week away, which means that all of the preparation for graduation is in full motion. With all of the work that needs to be done before graduation, should the seniors still be learning in their classes? Or is it time to take the final and be done for good?
At this point in the year, the seniors are checked out and just done with high school. Homework doesn’t even exist to them anymore. Senioritis is a real thing, and the whole class of 2024 is being diagnosed with it.
When students are this close to graduation, none of them want to do any kind of work. In most classes, the teachers understand that no one wants to work anymore and are given fun projects to do. The seniors in Mr. Jenkins’s AP Literature class are currently drawing children’s books to pass the time before the seniors’ last day.
Overall, the class of 2024 has agreed that doing work this close to the last day is absurd. Senior Calli Weaving says that “some fun light projects are good,” but any hard work is not something that she wants to do at this time of year.
Students don’t want to be doing anything, either. Sitting in a classroom doing absolutely nothing and just waiting for the bell to ring isn’t ideal. Weaving says, “I’m honestly just wandering the halls,” when she has to wait for class to be done, looking for something to do for someone to help.
Seniors have worked hard for four years and are counting down the days until it’s all over. But coming to class, even if it is just to do a drawing or talk to your friends, is important. Staying on top of your attendance and making sure your grades are where they should be is essential to graduating feeling proud.
