The 2024 season for the Wildcats’ Boys Lacrosse team started well, winning the first 2 games then losing the third in a heartbreaker to the team who put them down last year, Century of Hillsboro.
After that, the Wildcats headed into spring break of the 2024 school year traveling to Seattle to take on 2 great teams up in that area. A lot went on in Seattle for the Wildcats and they finished 0-2, both games finishing with disappointment. Still, the team finished both games strong.
Once the team got back from their trip, they went on a stretch of 7 games where they won 2, which put the record to 4-8 on the season log. With slim chances of making state playoffs the Wildcats needed to turn things around quickly, with league playoffs requiring a win in the first round to guarantee a coveted spot in State.
Things did not go as planned after losing a heartbreaker at Newberg, where they did not score in the second half, putting them with little-to-no shot at State. No matter the outcome, the team knew they would leave everything out there for all the seniors and coaches.
They ended up in the Cascade Cup bracket as the number 1 seed, just below their ranking the previous year. The guys wanted to win that bracket more than anything. Senior Kellen Rapp said, “It was for coach Bateman and all of us fellow seniors who have played together for all this time we wanted to finish strong.”
Putting them in the Cascade Cup gave the Wildcats a sense of needing to prove they deserved to be in State and went on to win over the 6th seeded team, Ridgeview. This brought home the only Cascade Cup Wilsonville Lacrosse has ever won, and proved to a lot of the state that the Wildcats pose tough competition in years to come.
