While forecasting, students noticed some new classes added to the list. Some new classes being offered this year are Ethnic Studies, Sports broadcasting, Applied Business, and Mindful Studies.
While there are so many new and exciting classes for students to take this year, there are also some classes that are no longer available such as Robotics 1 and 2, as well as Computer Programming 2.
One new class offered this year is Leadership in Spanish. This class is a great leadership opportunity for Spanish-students and people in the dual language program. But there are also multiple dual language classes that are not going to be offered this year.
Brooklynn Rhodehamel, a junior who is apart of the dual language program, can sometimes find it difficult to meet her dual language class requirements. She shares, “This year, Wilsonville is no longer offering creative writing and zoology in Spanish.” However, many students still enjoy Leadership in Spanish.
One big change to classes this year is that freshmen will no longer start learning math in geometry, but instead, will start out in algebra one. Freshman will take geometry their sophomore year as a natural academic acceleration.
Mr. Desalvo is one of the teachers teaching the new algebra 1 program. “Kids will be going from Algebra into Geometry, and what is really nice is (that) all of our freshman for the most part are starting with a really good foundation in algebra, which will set them up for success moving forward,” He illuminates.
Starting incoming freshman with Algebra is another exciting new addition to students’ schedules, and will give new students strong starts to what math will be like throughout the rest of high school.
Although some classes are missing from schedules this year, there are many new classes that will help students in their high school careers, while also being fun and enjoyable by giving students even more opportunities.
