As the school year begins, the class of 2025 experiences a bittersweet beginning through the much anticipated Senior Sunrise. With a lot to look forward to, seniors get to feel the excitement for the rest of the year and their futures, as well as sadness as things begin coming to an end.
The event on Thursday, September 5th, took place on the football field bright and early. Randall Stadium was covered with students, draped in blankets, snuggled in sweatshirts, and grouped together with friends. The field was scattered with signs stating, “Senior Sunrise” and “Class of 2025,” used for taking photos.
That morning also holds an importance to seniors, marking their, “Start to the end,” said Sadie Hibbard. It’s not only a good chance to bring people together before the year begins, but also acknowledge that it’s their final start of the year before high school ends for them.
Senior Sunrise entailed a lot to look forward to, much more than just picture taking. Not only were people excited to get to spend the beautiful morning with the people they’re closest with, but also took it as a chance to interact with others.
Lizzy Owens shares, “I’m honestly just looking forward to seeing people that I wouldn’t usually connect with.” The event gave this year’s graduating class the chance to see their peers, whether close friends or not, as everyone celebrated the beginning of senior year together.
But, Senior Sunrise is’t the only thing the class of 2025 has to look forward to this upcoming school year. Plenty of other events like Senior Nights, Senior Skip Day, and grad parties all help seniors celebrate their final year in high school.
As these events come around, it gives this year’s seniors an opportunity to look back on their time here and recall all the wonderful, funny, and even unexpected memories. “It makes me sad that these are the last times I’ll ever get to do these things,” stated Hibbard.
Owens added that it makes her look back on her time in school, and it’s a way to recognize the people they’ve spent these past years with. While the class of 2025 is trying to enjoy their final days here, there is also the upcoming excitement of everything new coming.
“I’m ready to start something new, but sad that I have to leave everything I know behind,” expressed Hibbard. Owens added,
“I’m kind of scared, but it’ll be fun.” Even though leaving is difficult, seniors have much to look forward to as they move onto their next stage in life.
