Wilsonville is home to many beloved clubs, but the National Art Honor Society, (NAHS), stands out for its unique focus and community impact. NAHS is different compared to other art clubs because NAHS is a more serious, dedicated organization. Members engage in meaningful projects such as creating community murals and volunteering at art-based events throughout Wilsonville.
Vivian Ward, one of the co-presidents of NAHS, explains, “It’s different from other art clubs because it is more serious. We do commissions for the community such as murals. We also volunteer at art-based events around Wilsonville. When you graduate, you get special rainbow cords. You can join even if you don’t think you’re good at art.”
Ms. Escobar, who is the advisor for NAHS, helps the co-presidents, (True Wiliams, and Vivian Ward), organize the events. She explains that NAHS is an “honor society for artists.” As well, it’s a place for kids to be, “Honor students in the field is their specialty,” and, “Where members can earn honors through their community involvement and community service,” says Ms. Escobar.
It is very specific to convey the fine arts and the visual arts, they do projects that could help draw attention to art and art education.
NAHS hopes to grow and see more students involved in, “Service-oriented clubs because I think that it builds character,” says Ms. Escobar, so make sure to keep an eye out for any digital announcements, and possibly the newspaper as well.
NAHS also has its very own Instagram page, (@wvhs_nahs). Oftentimes times they will have meetings to learn more about the club, they include pizza to help kids make connections and meet new people in the art room.
The National Art Honor Society is open to all students, regardless of their current skill level in art, fostering both personal and artistic growth. NAHS invites everyone interested in arts, they meet in room 80 at lunch and occasionally after school as well.
Their first meeting will include painting T-shirts for a bonding experience with new members. They have a Google Classroom for people interested. Code (j744dge)
