With new school years rolling around, come new teachers from every which way. Specifically picked to help improve Wilsonville High School and build the community of Wildcats, the students await to welcome the incoming faculty.
They’re here to make a difference and positively impact the lives of many students as they travel through their high school careers. They help redirect minds and encourage students to focus on academic, social, and emotional strengths, rather than dwelling or living in weaknesses.
Teachers are the backbone of society’s future, and without them, communities such as Wilsonville wouldn’t get to experience the beauty of learning or surpass unthinkable limits. This year, Wilsonville encounters 4 new teachers who are ready to help contribute to each student’s individual and communal growth.
They’ve all experienced different routes to end up here, but are equally as excited to be a part of the Wildcat Community.
For example, Marian Wattman Oshima has worked in the district for many years but recently decided to take up the role of instructional coordinator in special education at WHS.
Whereas, Ignacio Arcas is an AP Spanish teacher who moved here from Maui with his family. He took part in helping with the Spanish Club and National Honors Society at his late school. When asked what he’s most excited about through his transition to Wilsonville High School, he said, “The new challenge and change of pace the school has to offer.”
If you thought that was all, there’s more! Jerry Rhea is a learning specialist who has experience in mental health and therapeutic settings. He is a great bonus to WHS’ existing staff and will fit right into the joyous environment, making it exceptional. Anna Maribel Valverde Astorga states,
“I like to see students grow, develop interests, and become more independent. As well as seeing diverse groups of students, and it helps that I knew them beforehand.” She is coming from Wood Middle School and has lots of experience with the incoming freshman. Additionally, she is an ELD teacher who specializes in dual language classrooms.
Change can be huge, and with the new teachers here to support the students of Wilsonville High School, there’s no doubt they’ll get the job done. The whole of Wilsonville High School wishes them luck in their new adventures!
