Students this year are eager to get into the 2024 football season. With a new student section, uplifting cheers, and reconnecting with friends, Wilsonville High School feels ecstatic to return to all the football traditions.
A big topic students are looking forward to is making their way to the front of the student section. Freshmen start their high school years at the top of the student section, while seniors have worked their way to the front over their high school careers.
Senior Lana Gillas shares, “I am looking forward to all the home games, standing at the front, and running the flag.” She adds, “When you get to the front, it’s a blast.” Gillas and other seniors are excited to enjoy the thrill of the game from a better view.
Many students are also thrilled by the uplifting cheers that excite the game. Every game, the cheerleading team guides the student section through cheers and chants to help lure the crowd into the game. Doing this helps hype up the football team and all of the fans.
Cheerleader Addie Miller says, “My favorite thing about cheering at football games is getting the crowd hyped, seeing everyone do all the cheers, and cheering on the football team.” The cheerleaders play a vital role in keeping the crowd going and energized during the game.
Gillas added that the leaders and cheerleaders at the bottom of the student section help “amplify the environment.” She expressed that being at the front of the student section is way more fun than what it’s like being at the top as a freshman.
The football team is just getting their 2024 season started, and students are looking forward to the different aspects the student section brings. Students are excited to get into action cheering on the football team with a new crowd and fresh cheers!
