The Wilsonville Girls soccer team is looking to secure the four-peat this season after winning 3 straight state 5A championships. Recently, the Cats played on Monday and lost against Beaverton.
The Wildcats have gotten off to a 3-4 record this year playing against some very good teams. The Cats have fought hard against these teams showing very good moments and chemistry as a unit. Their opponent, Hillsboro, has gotten off to a 1-2-3 record to start the 2024 season.
It is always important to get off to a good start in the game and that starts by warming up and getting focused for a match.
Freshman Peighton Olson states, “Making sure we are very warmed up and stretched and getting focused listening to music and coming in with a very positive attitude ready to play.” Sophomore Defender, Justine Sheets, adds by saying,
“I always listen to music, then I visualize the game, and right before we kick off I say a prayer.” The Wildcats are preparing a lot in the midfield and the box against Hillsboro and Sheets states, “We’re focusing a lot on finding the lateral transitions and taking 1v1 chances for a shot on goal.”
Wilsonville has had lots of 1v1 chances to create goals, and Olson elaborates by saying,
“We need to make sure we are having a mark in midfield, overloading the box on corner kicks, and playing as a team.” Both Sheets and Olson talked about being mentally prepared and going in with a positive attitude no matter who you are playing.
After winning 3 state championships, the Wildcats aim to succeed the tradition once again, facing each team with enthusiasm and grit. Olson reflects on recent results by saying, “We need to put lots of effort into practices and have a positive attitude on and off the field and that will turn into results.” Sheets agrees with Olson, echoing,
“It factors in because we still need to show other teams that we are still Wilsonville and here to give it everything we have to win.”
The Wildcats are proven to win many games and play very well during the stretch of the season. They have played some very competitive 6A teams and have some competitive opponents coming up this year. Come out and cheer for Wilsonville Girls soccer as they fight for a 4 peat!
