Rolling into week four, our undefeated Wildcats take on the Lakeridge Pacers at Randall. Both teams are 3-0 to start the season, and the Wildcats are grateful to get a home game after two road trips to Summit and Sunset.
This may be a non-league game, but this week, the state of Oregon awaits in anticipation. On Wednesday night, KGW News had a section on Friday night lights and, comically using emojis, stated this Friday’s match-up as, “The game of the week.”
Lakeridge is a respectable team; with a University of Washington Commit running back, the Wildcats will have to work hard to stop them. Coming off of a hamstring injury, this is junior running back Roman Kealoha’s second season on Varsity, and this week will be his first game back this season.
Kealoha says,
“This will be our hardest game yet this season.” Although Wilsonville is undersized, the Wildcats are still a faster team that will battle all four quarters. Wilsonville may be smaller compared to Lakeridge, but they’ve proven they’re a high-caliber team, beating teams like Nelson and Sunset this season.
Lakeridge is an almost all-run team, and Wilsonville will need to adjust to being a team that fights and plays in their pass game. Kealoha claims, “This game will be a dogfight won on the line of scrimmage on defense and offense; this game will be won by speed.”
Wilsonville, being the reigning 2023 state champs, has pressure as they expect to fulfill and exceed previous standings. Wilsonville takes pride in the Wildcat family stealing Guenther’s phrase,
“Individually strong, together unstoppable.” Come in all-black for the Dark Out game to cheer for Wilsonville at the Randall Stadium!
