Swinging becoming a trend in boys soccer
Swinging up players from JV Boys Soccer to varsity has become a commonality this season. Four players already have played in both JV and Varsity games, and some of the swingers have played very significant minutes.
When talking to Elijah Powlison, one of the swingers, about playing both JV and Varsity, he said he felt good about it. In fact, he said “I like that I get the opportunity to play with varsity and have varsity experience.”
Powlison said that there are so many swingers this year because of the fierce competition due to the substantial amount of players with varsity talent who are trying to prove themselves. Powlison believes that the swingers play a valuable role for the team especially when people are injured. Elijah believes that with the help of the swingers he feels “We can definitely win state this year. This is the team to win state.”
The significant amount of swingers this year only sets up the competition to be even fiercer next year with all the players working hard to assure their spots on varsity. Elijah said he will work hard during the season and off-season to try and secure his varsity and possible starting spot next year.
