“It was by a buddy of mine, Jeremy Nichols. He was the one who knew there was an opening here, and I didn’t have a job at the time, so I applied for it. About two months later, they offered me the job and I said ‘Sure.’ I am a custodian. I work outside, in the basement, and I set up for the events here. Really, I just do whatever needs to be done. I used to clean junior high schools, and so it’s pretty much the same thing. It’s working with kids. So that’s why I told myself, ‘Okay, I’ll do this. I’ll work as a custodian. I’ll do it.’ And you know what, it’s fun. You guys make it fun for me to be here and do my job. It’s watching you guys just do your thing, and I just love cleaning up. But if it weren’t for you guys, I wouldn’t be here today. So you guys make it fun for me to be here, clean up, and do the job that I do. I’m probably going to be here for the long haul; until retirement.”

“Kind, funny, energetic. That’s how my friends would describe me. I guess I’m shy, but like, once you get to know me, I open up more. My childhood. I have a bunch of siblings, some of them are older than me, and some of them are younger. I always help out around the house, but like, I find myself in different places sometimes. Always show people kindness because you never know what they’re going through. I’m passionate. And I’m kind. I’m passionate about clubs, fashion, cheer, and dance too. I just was like planning on going to college, and then like taking business and fashion classes. Or maybe cosmetics. And then I’d like to start my own business. That’s what I want to do in the future. School now? School. I guess at some points, I feel like it can be stressful. Some days I come home and think that I don’t like school, but also, there are some moments when I do enjoy school and all the events that happen.”

“‘What would you like? Could you put your student number in for me? Thank you.’ I’m a lunch lady. I really wanted to do this because I wanted summer off. My kids are my passion, my Church, too, and just my family mainly. I didn’t plan on liking the kids as much as I do, but I think that a lot of the students are kind, and I like that. I think the students treat each other really well for the most part. When you think your kindness doesn’t matter, it really does. So just think about it.”

“The school has finished the new theatre since I left. The main difference is that in Oregon, people are so much more involved in school and after-school activities, rather than in the school I went to in Florida. I love the people at Wilsonville High School, and they always make it feel welcoming. My best advice would be to keep your head up and not let your homework pile up. I wish I would’ve cared more about high school when I came in, rather than not caring. My plans are to either go into real estate or the Air Force.”

“I was having coffee with a friend of mine, and I was just saying like, ‘I don’t know what to do; I don’t know where to go from here; I don’t want to be an admin; I don’t want to leave education, but I’m really good in the classroom.’ Then she was like, ‘Why don’t you go [to] the library?’ just kind of like no big deal. And I was like, ‘Oh!’ And the more I started thinking about it, the more I was like, ‘Oh yeah, that would actually be like the perfect place for me to go. Within a few months of that, I applied for my library masters program and got started.”
