With October starting comes the homecoming festivities. On October 10th, Wilsonville High School held its annual Homecoming parade. The parade is an important part of the homecoming tradition. The parade took place near the high school.
Each grade’s student council has been tasked with building a float to represent the grade that will be part of the parade. Each of the floats will themed around the homecoming theme: “The Big Game.” The float themes are Chess, Clue, Monopoly, and Candyland. Each grade has had about 2-3 weeks to create their float that will be shown to the city during the parade.
The floats from each grade won’t just be the only thing at the parade. The Wilsonville High School cheer team will also have a float in the parade. The dance team also made an appearance dancing to a song performed by the band.
The floats are a big part of the parade, but many behind-the-scenes preparations are done to make the parade route safe and free of obstacles. School Resource Officer Zach Kiersey stated, “We have a bunch of other police officers that will be blocking roadways to make sure the parade route is safe.” Officer Keirsey is also the first part of the parade leading the parade down the route and making sure everyone is at a safe pace.
Ava Roberts, a member of the Freshman Student Council, talked about her role in the parade. Roberts stated, “My role is to help construct and prep the freshman float for the parade and to ride the float.” Ava and the Freshman Council have spent a lot of time ensuring that all the float’s logistical parts come together.
One of the other parts of the parade was the dance team and their float. A member of the dance team Hailee Inman said, “My role is being on the dance team … in the homecoming parade we are walking around town and with the band we [were] dancing to ‘Poker Face.’”
