From setting up our fields, to planning events, or running drills, Tammy Sue Bradley does so much at Wilsonville High School. She’s our facilities scheduler, event manager, and coaches multiple sports.
This entails doing things like approving who uses school spaces, preparing fields for games, and getting announcers and scoreboards available. “When a football game is happening, we want the coach to pay attention to the football players and not have to worry if the field is ready,” said Bradley.
Before doing these things here, though, Bradley had worked in athletics at other places. She began at OSU, interning around the athletic department. “She was actually Benny the Beaver for three years, including the year that the duck attacked the beaver,” added Laura LaJoie, Tammy’s sister.
Then, she moved on to get her masters in sports administration. While attending school, she had to decide what area of sports she would want to be involved in. Bradley stated, “I really thought international, what an excellent way to be able to see the world.”
After graduating, Bradley received her opportunity to travel by beginning to work at the Olympics. That year, they happened to be held in the U.S.
“I was the transportation manager for the beach volleyball venue, and then I just kind of got this itch, so I decided to stay with it,” she added. In total, Bradley worked at 8 Olympics over her career.
While working at the Olympics, LaJoie said, “She was in charge of everything from transportation, security, volunteers, and all other components of that.”
From there, Bradley spent years working with not just the Olympics, but other international sporting events. She got to participate in the Fifa World Cup, Rugby World Cup, skiing, boxing, and wrestling events.
Eventually, Bradley took a coaching job here. For about three years, she said, “I’d spend the fall coaching, and then I’d go someplace, and then I’d spend the spring coaching, and then I’d go someplace.” Bradley later decided to put down roots here, taking on all of her current roles.
Wherever Bradley is, though LaJoie believes it’s always apparent that she is, “this hardworking woman who’s on a mission, and the people she works with get to benefit from her hard work.”
But, on top of all these things, what we really receive from Bradley is her care and love for every athlete. “She cares so deeply about every person that she is responsible for, that has a place on her team, and that she’s leading,” added LaJoie.
This devotion is also deeply felt by her players. Junior Sydney Cedarburg said, “Tammy is super fun, we always feel at home, and we’re always super excited to get out and practice.” Bradley’s also working to make and keep connections with students whether their sport is in season or not.
“She builds a relationship with us at the beginning of the year and continues it after softball ends. She really cares about each and every one of her players,” continued Cederburg.
LaJoie also adds, “I think that she has such an impact on the young woman that she coaches.”
Tammy Sue Bradley has had a huge impact on Wilsonville High School over the years. With her countless hours of planning, coaching, and scheduling, she has created relationships with players, students, and staff. Bradley carries all those connections into the importance of her job and the value she brings each day to Wilsonville High School.
