Ruling with an iron fist has become something of second nature to Wilsonville girls’s soccer, as just last Sunday they secured their fourth state title win in a row. Paving this legacy has been especially fascinating for two athletes who have been a part of the winning tradition since their first steps on campus four years ago.
Mid-forward Brooklyn Bybee has been a quintessential piece in this Wildcat offense. Playing multiple positions over her quadrennial at Wilsonville while finding a way to infuse her talents no matter where the team needs her. “I feel like I was a flexible player, and I played in multiple different positions, just depending on what the team needed,” expressed Bybee.
A team player nonetheless, Bybee excelled in her role as a leader on the team, especially in what some would consider a bridge year for Wilsonville. Losing nine seniors in the offseason is not a great recipe for success, but with a strong group of veterans, Wilsonville was able to pull through to take home the state title.
“When I came in as a freshman, I felt like we had a lot more experienced players; as a senior, I stepped up and came into a leadership role that the team needed,” stated Bybee.
Side by side with Bybee is the senior midfielder, Tegan Waters. Waters shares her experiences when comparing her freshman year to her senior campaign. “It was more of just taking it in and learning from those before me, and this year I was the one teaching. I’ve learned so much and how to keep a team together and how to lead a team.”
Leadership doesn’t end past the players; head coach Alex Boehm has been around for Wilsomnville’s dynasty and has had the same moniker since the start. “We are capable of doing more than we think we can.”
The sky is beyond the limit for this girl’s squad, and they are undoubtedly aiming for the moon. With the season coming to a close last Sunday, one question remains: How long will the dynasty last?
