Wilsonville High School is a place of learning, community, education, clubs and sports. With all this bustle, there is always a demand to improve and maintain the school.
Some have taken on this challenge. Junior Life classes began working on a school improvement project. Within the school, many people want to improve the school and make it a great experience for all students and teachers in the community.
Chemistry and junior Life teacher Mrs. Kilpatrick elaborated on the project, and how her class has tried to improve the school community. Ms Kilpatrick stated, “our goal was to help custodial staff who are very unstaffed. We can help by picking up trash to make their jobs a little easier.”
Mrs. Kilpatrick’s Life classes painted the walls outside the classroom which used to be the old college and career center and their goals have been to improve different maintenance of their area.
Mrs. Kilpatrick echoed the school’s improvement goals, stating, “As a school and a community our job is to take care and ownership of our school setting and having care with our area of classrooms and taking care of our space. We know it is our job to take care of our community and help the custodial staff.”
Mrs. Kilpatick and her life class have repainted a wall in front of the chemistry rooms, and they plan to collaborate with the art classes to put more art pieces near the science class walls.
Students and staff have come up with innovative ideas for school improvement. Additionally, there has been new awareness toward some concerns or things to improve on. For example, junior and BSU member JD Greene echoed the importance of giving varieties for classes for their futures and giving varieties for things they will use. Greene stated, “I sometimes feel schools have not given us a variety of what classes we can choose from for our futures and we need more varieties to choose from.” Some students have also requested for more varieties of school improvement for their future classes to be implemented into the life class schedules.
Greene reflected the importance of these projects and ideas, stating, “We need to be able to teach improvement skills and be able to make a change in a community. This can help kids learn and build future building strategies for a better future.”
Greene’s future is important to him, and being a member of the BSU Greene doesn’t shy away from giving strategies for his future to the varieties of classes for students to choose from.
Classes have come up with great strategies for collaborating with teachers and clubs to make a better school. Wilsonville is important to many people, so maintaining a good school and community is a top priority.
