Rolling into the most wonderful time of the year, Wilsonville High School just hosted its fifth Holiday Bazaar. The Holiday Bazaar, in the words of Amanda Tufts, is “a holiday farmers market, with tons of vendors selling things like jewelry, food, and a very nice cribbage board.”
Our local Kids Making Miracles club put on the bazaar. The club’s President, Lauren Thomas, told us about the inner workings of the event, and what was needed for it to happen.
When asked about the process needed to put this on, it takes setting up tables, putting together raffles, cleaning up, and tearing down. This year as a president, Thomas had the responsibilities of reaching vendors and inviting them, finding volunteers, and spreading the word about the event.
While hosted by Kids Making Miracles, many other clubs utilized the event to fundraise and grow their own awareness. Annika Martin, the Vice President of the Interact club, helped her group alongside other volunteers. Interact sold goodie bags with beloved chocolate treats, helping bring smiles to many attendees.
When asked about the qualities and atmosphere of the Bazaar, Martin stated,
“It’s the start of the Christmas season. There are tons of holiday decorations and music, and the entire energy of the place makes you feel like it’s officially holiday season.”
A special treat for the people there, Wilsonville’s acapella group, “Soul’d out,” came and sang throughout the day. Not only did they sing to add to holiday cheer, but engaged with visitors.
Sydney Cederberg, a Junior singer with the group, spoke of the experience. She said they were there to volunteer and sing Christmas songs to entertain. But in doing so, they gained popularity as a group and had fun during the Bazaar.
Cederberg notes that her favorite song to perform was ‘Mary Did You Know,’ since it has a beautiful harmony. Despite this, she recounts that her favorite song they sang during the Bazaar was ‘Jingle Bells’ because a young girl attending came and requested to sing that song with them.
Only part of their day was spent singing. Cederberg thanks the Bazaar for allowing her a great day to interact with the community, sing, and enjoy the market with her friends in the group.
The bazaar not only raised money for clubs and vendors but also helped unite the community, making unforgettable moments to kick off this holiday season.
