Kindness is often the key to people’s hearts and maintaining their trust. Being nice to others can make someone’s day, and even open a door to new friendships. When we stop to think about it, kindness can spread quickly. It can start with a singular person and grow into something much larger.
A kind compliment, a smile, or a wave can change someone’s day. To be kind is to care, and showing someone you care has an immense impact. Even one person can change a life and a community. When you know someone cares about you and your well-being, you have a purpose.
This ripple effect of kindness can change not only individuals but whole communities. Wilsonville High School has a welcoming community that thrives on spreading kindness. Through after-school activities, kind and inclusive teachers, clubs, and diversity, our school makes students feel welcome. This leads to a much more enjoyable high school experience, as our school is a safe and hopeful community.
Wilsonville High School Junior Emanuel Enriquez noted, “I’ve noticed students show kindness in a lot of places such as the cafeteria. A lot of people are kind to each other; they make sure people create a connection with each other by being nice to one another.” Sometimes, we think showing kindness should be a big act when sometimes it could just be a simple compliment to someone to continue the ripple effect.
In a world that sometimes seems to be taken over by negativity, kindness is a major shaping force in our lives. Though the idea of kindness may seem so rudimentary, it’s a daily choice we can make.
Senior Nick Waite mentioned, “I do think our school is an overall kind community, just a few bad apples but overall, it’s decent.’’
The ripple effect of kindness is real and immensely important, and we all have the power to create waves of positivity and compassion that extend far beyond ourselves.
